Officer Johnny Garcia, badge #3572, was killed in a car crash while on duty on October 14, 1989. Officer Garcia was responding to reports of a drunk driver near the Picacho interchange on Interstate 10 when the incident occurred. His patrol car, while passing a vehicle on State Route 84 near Casa Grande, struck loose gravel and rolled several times before hitting a car and striking a tree.

Officer Garcia had served with the Arizona Department of Public Safety for three and a half years before his death.
