Maricopa, Pinal Schools Celebrate Satellite CTE Success

Nine public school districts in Maricopa and Pinal counties are celebrating the success of satellite Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The districts, which include Queen Creek, Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Cave Creek, Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, J.O. Combs, and Tempe Union, serve nearly 24,000 high school students.

The satellite model allows high-quality CTE classes to be taught directly at students’ home high schools. This approach gives students access to hands-on training aligned with Arizona’s workforce needs without leaving their campuses. The programs combine classroom instruction with practical, skills-based training on industry-standard equipment and follow a curriculum that prepares students for high-wage careers in high-demand fields.

The nine districts now offer more than 100 CTE programs through the satellite model, with 15 programs available exclusively on high school campuses. The model keeps students connected to their school communities, helps protect instructional time, and avoids transportation and scheduling issues associated with centralized career education options.

The initiative is supported by monitoring from the Arizona Department of Education and is part of a broader effort to provide students with real-world career preparation before graduation.
