Casa Grande officials said the Fire Department and Police Department responded to a commercial structure fire at an industrial facility within the city.

The facility stores and refurbishes industrial barrels on-site, officials said. They described challenges due to the property’s size and limited accessibility, including difficulty determining the exact location and extent of the fire from the firefighters’ initial access points because the affected area was not readily visible.

According to the department’s Safe City Initiative update, Real Time Information Center (RTIC) staff monitored calls for service and deployed a Drone as a First Responder (DFR) to assist. RTIC staff then relayed real-time information to firefighters, including which side of the building flames were coming from. Officials said this detail was not visible to reporting witnesses or firefighters who arrived initially.

The Safe City Initiative uses tools that include license plate reader cameras, real-time video, and drone technology, the post said. The initiative’s resources highlighted include a Transparency Portal explaining what the system does and does not do, a Flight Dashboard showing drone deployment data, and a “Register Your Camera” option for community partnership.
